I recently showcased how I organize my walk-in closet which you can read all about here. I mentioned that the right side of my closet was wasted space not being used effectively.
What I had in this space, were boxes off all my off-season shoes and my purses hanging from two different coat hooks that were installed by the previous owners of the house. I live in a Cape style house therefore on this side of the closet the ceiling is at a slant. I had to find something that would fit within the space and also help to better organize either my shoes or some clothes.
Scrolling through Pinterest one day, I came across this Storage Cube closet organization idea for your closet and knew it would be the perfect way to organize all of my sweaters. I picked up the Threshold 9 Cube Organizer shelf at Target for $39.99.
To start, I took everything out of my closet that I knew I was going to be re-organizing. This was all of my folded sweaters, shoe boxes, and Purses. I placed everything around my bedroom to make it easier to move around in my closet.
Once I built the cube shelf, I placed it on the right side of my closet and started filling it with sweaters that were re-folded. I tried to organize them by thickness and by favorites. The pieces that I wear more often are towards the top of the shelf, and the ones I wear less often were added to the bottom. The process of re-folding each sweater before placing it into a space, I was able to really evaluate if I wanted to keep the sweater or not. Through this process I picked out a handful of sweaters that I put aside to donate.
Once I was done adding all of the sweaters, I had two cubes left. I’m a book-worm and added some recently read books. I try to only keep books that I plan on-reading in the future. All other books I hand out to friends and family or donate.
On the top of the shelf, I added two pictures. One of my dog Brady. The picture was taken the day we brought him home. The other picture is my dad, with a flower card that he gave to my mom before he passed away. The card says “If love were to have a name, I know what that name would be”. In the middle is cute box I was given on my 30th birthday by my friend Mallory A. The quote is “Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them but they’re always there”. I keep trinkets and special keepsakes saved here.
All of my off-season shoe boxes were placed on the top shelf above the racks. Better to keep things not needed frequently up and out of reach.
My closet feels spacious and everything needed is within reach and properly organized which makes getting dressed in the morning a smooth and simple process.
