Decorating for Christmas can be an expensive and tedious ordeal. Here is a fun DIY craft that is perfect for Mommy cocktail and craft night. It’s also affordable.
Supplies You’ll Need:
Wreath Frame – $4.34
Green Floral Wire – $1.10
Plastic Round Ornaments – 20 CT $8.98 each (I picked up two containers)
Wreath Door Hanger – $1.65
Large Bow – $3.98
Wire Cutters – already owned
Total spent = $29.03
I found all of these supplies at my local Walmart. You can select any color round ornaments or bow to go with the color of your house. I chose to go with a mix of red, black and gold which will pop with my dark blue house.
Using the floral wire, secure the ornaments to the wreath frame. I found that anchoring the wire to the frame, then adding 3 or 4 ornaments to the wire pushing it back through the frame and anchoring it again made the process faster and created tighter clusters of ornaments than securing one ornament at a time. As I went through the process, I got better at securing the floral wire to the wreath wire so my later clusters are better than my first. You improve as you go.
After I filled the wreath wire with clusters, I laid it down flat on the kitchen table to find any thin areas that needed to be filled in with a single ornament at a time. I saved the section that looked the worst to add my bow to cover it up versus filling it in.
The final product, I have my wreath hanging on a clear wreath hanger. There are still a few areas that I want to add more ornaments to fill it in even more, but overall I’m happy with how my first DIY wreath turned out. This process can be followed with other materials such as fake flowers or plants, pine cones, burlap etc to create looks for other holidays and seasons. The possibilities are endless.
Happy wreath making!
